A visitor once questioned Swami Vivekananda, "Why should we go to temple when god is everywhere?

In response to his query, Swamiji smiled and said he would respond later that day. Later that evening, the individual arrived late, so, Swamiji questioned him about it. The person added, "I couldn't find any air pumps to refill my car tires, and the air in my tires seems to have diminished."

Swami immediately asked him as to why he hadn't opened the tire's valve and pumped the surrounding air into it. "How can I accomplish that?" the individual responded. "We need an air pump to force air into the tire so it gets inside."

"It seems your tire condition has solved your previous inquiry," Swamiji said.

"Despite having limitless air around you, you need a pump to concentrate the air and push it into the tire. Although there is air all around, you need a fan to experience it. Similarly, the atmosphere within the temple influences the atmosphere within the person towards positivity and faith.”

Generally every day, devotees assemble in large numbers for darshans of the lord in the Temple, take a look at the forms and mudras of the deity, of the garbhgrahs, and do parikramas. Their immaculate devotion, reverence, the vibrations generated by the sound of bells and conch shells, the words of chanting mantras, prayers - all these together make the ambiance of the temple just like an amazing powerhouse of positive, spiritual energies.

Scientific Reason- Why Should We Go To The Temple

Location & Structure of Temple: According to Puranas, most temples are established in places where there is a richness of positive energy from magnetic and electric wave conveyances of north/south post push.

Garbhgraha position: The idol is always placed in the center of the temple, known as the Garbhgraha. The statuette of the dwelling Diety is always positioned in the positive, centric place of the temple where the earth’s magnetic wave is asserted to be extreme.

The floor of the temple is known to be a very good conductor of energy and this will pass on to the devotee through their feet. Therefore, it is important to visit the temple bare feet.

All the five senses of a human being are activated.

  • Hearing – Bells emit a sound that connects both sides of the brain in the form of an echo lasting for about 7- 10 seconds. This duration is sufficient to activate all the healing centers of the body.

  • Sight—Looking with open eyes at the deity, lighted Diya, camphor, flowers, etc, and then closing – reopening activates the sight.

  • Smell—The blend of flowers, camphor, extracts & perfumes emit a strong odor, thus activating smell.

  • Touch: When we take aarti with both the reversely opened palms, and when we touch our eyes with those palms, we feel the warmth of the palms. Thus our sense of touch is activated.

  • Taste—Usually the holy Charmamrit is kept within a copper vessel. As per Ayurveda's notion, all the three Doshas of the body are balanced when the copper water is consumed. Thus, the sense of taste is activated.

Parikrama: After darshan, parikrama around the temple, in a clockwise direction, is a must. The devotees would absorb all the positive energies surrounding the temple.

When we are sick, we visit a doctor. The doctor prescribes a combined process of some medicines, food, and beverages to cure us and convert the food into energy required by our body. Temple is like a hospital for us to receive treatment for our spiritual disorders.

As a devotee, we need a peaceful and calm place full of positive energy for our prayers. And that’s probably one of the reasons why we go to the temple despite having God everywhere.
